Millennium is seeking coaches for its fall season
If you enjoy working with young kids and are interested in sharing your soccer knowledge, we encourage you to join us as a coach this fall. Our season runs Saturday mornings from Sept. 17 to Oct. 22.
We think you’ll find it a rewarding and worthwhile experience. Our young players certainly would benefit enormously from your encouragement and guidance. You can get a brief overview of how our soccer leagues work by looking over the information about our program.
We welcome your involvement, even if you can help out at only two or three of the sessions. For more information or to sign up, contact Tom Grogg at 233-0554 or tgrogg@charter.net.
Millennium Soccer Club: Elementary School Age Programs
What
The Millennium Soccer Club currently sponsors soccer programs for low-income elementary school age youth in four ethnically diverse neighborhoods in south Madison who might otherwise not have an opportunity to play. These programs, which are offered each fall and spring, focus on providing basic instruction in the fundamentals of soccer as well as giving our participants an opportunity to have fun playing in a variety of small-sided soccer games.
Who
Our neighborhood-based programs are open to both boys and girls who will be playing together on teams in one of our two grade-level divisions: 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th. Teams in both divisions will consist of 6-8 players.
Where
All program sessions will be held on the playing fields at or near four elementary schools (Falk, Leopold, Lincoln, and Orchard Ridge) in our targeted neighborhoods and Marlborough Park in south Madison.
When
The upcoming spring season will consist of six Saturday morning sessions that begin on Sept. 17 and end on Oct. 22nd.
Program Set-Up
Millennium is committed to providing our players a positive and safe environment in which to learn to play the game. Each Saturday session, which consists of a combination practice/game, lasts approximately 1½ hours, with different starting/ending times at each of the sites. For the first half of the session, all the teams practice on their own, while focusing on the development of individual and teamrelated skills. In the second half, they play games against other teams in their division. The games are played 4v4 with no goalies on 20 x 30 meter fields.
Volunteers Needed
The Millennium Soccer Club needs volunteer coaches and field managers at all of its neighborhood sites. Coaches will work in pairs with the same team at each session that they are available to volunteer. Field managers will help with laying out field markers for games, setting up pop-up goals, filling water coolers, collecting/bagging soccer equipment, etc. It is anticipated and assumed that coaches/field managers might not be available to help out at all six sessions because of school or work commitments.
What You Can Expect as a Volunteer
You will find that Millennium’s young players really enjoy playing soccer, are eager learners, and have always worked extremely well with their volunteer coaches/field managers. A site coordinator will be on hand each Saturday to help coordinate field set up and to provide suggestions for practice activities.
